The new generation of the Han, one of BYD's flagship sedans, has emerged in the approval process required before a car can go on sale in China. Filings with China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) reveal the model's dimensions, powertrain options and weights. According to the filings, the new Han will hit the road in three all-electric versions and one plug-in hybrid (PHEV) version.

The car was spotted testing in camouflage in China in September with a LiDAR sensor on its roof. At the time, there was speculation that it might be positioned below the Han L, but the approved dimensions paint a different picture.

Between the Han L and the Da Han

The new Han measures 5,156 mm long and 1,969 mm wide, with a 3,030 mm wheelbase. Its height is listed as 1,492 mm or 1,507 mm, depending on the version. That makes the model 106 mm longer than the Han L, with a wheelbase 60 mm longer. The Da Han, meanwhile, is 100 mm larger than the new Han in both length and wheelbase. The new Han thus slots in between its two siblings.

Electric versions

The entry-level rear-wheel-drive version uses a 245 kW permanent-magnet synchronous motor, equivalent to about 329 horsepower. This version weighs 2,005 kg, has a top speed of 240 km/h and offers the roof-mounted LiDAR as an option.

The second version, also rear-wheel drive, raises motor output to 300 kW (about 402 horsepower). Weighing 2,125 kg, this option also reaches 240 km/h; the filings list no version without LiDAR.

At the top of the range sits an all-wheel-drive version. A combination of a 200 kW asynchronous motor at the front and a 320 kW permanent-magnet motor at the rear delivers a total of 520 kW, or about 697 horsepower. This version weighs 2,351 kg and has a top speed of 270 km/h. All three electric versions use LFP-chemistry Blade batteries made by BYD subsidiary FinDreams.

Hybrid option and other details

The PHEV version pairs a 1,498 cc turbocharged gasoline engine with a 200 kW (about 268 horsepower) electric motor. The gasoline engine produces 115 kW maximum and 110 kW net power (about 148 horsepower). The filings do not specify total system output. Weighing 2,115 kg, the hybrid Han reaches a top speed of 200 km/h and is also available in a version without LiDAR.

All four versions feature Bosch's integrated power brake (IPB) and an event data recorder. The filings list BYD's Xi'an and Changzhou plants as production sites, but do not specify which version will be built where. Battery capacity, range, pricing and launch date have not yet been announced.
