Verstappen's Singapore win brings striking stats: Istanbul Park is next

Max Verstappen's 73rd career victory, in Singapore, means he has now won at every track on the calendar but one. With Istanbul Park and Portimao returning in 2027, however, that list will grow to three.

Max Verstappen's victory at the Singapore Grand Prix took on added significance with the statistics that emerged after the race. The Red Bull driver claimed the 73rd win of his career on his 10th attempt at Marina Bay. The Dutchman had previously started from second on the grid four times at the circuit, finishing second on three of those occasions and retiring once after being caught between the Ferrari drivers at the first corner.

This time, Verstappen took his first pole position at the track and led every lap of the race. However, he missed out on the fastest lap after his rivals switched to soft tires in the closing stages, denying him the seventh "grand slam" of his career.

Madring the only gap on the calendar, but there will be three in 2027

Verstappen has now won at 27 different circuits. Only Lewis Hamilton, with 31, is ahead of him on that measure. The only track on the current calendar where Verstappen has yet to win is Madring, which hosted a Grand Prix for the first time this year and where his best result is second place.

But two circuits returning to the calendar in 2027 will change the picture. Portimao and Istanbul Park, where Verstappen has raced before without winning and where his best finish at both is second, will be back on the schedule next year. That means Verstappen will need three new victories to have won at every track on the calendar.

The same applies to Hamilton. The British driver failed to finish at Madring, while his best results are sixth in Miami and second in Las Vegas. He has, however, previously won at Istanbul Park and Portimao. Hamilton last achieved the feat of having won at every track on the calendar at the 2018 French Grand Prix, and held it until he failed to win at Zandvoort in 2021. The calendar had 21 tracks at the time; in 2027 that number will be 24.

50 poles and other numbers

Verstappen reached his 50th pole position in his 250th start, becoming the fifth driver to hit that mark. The list includes Ayrton Senna (108 races), Hamilton (168), Michael Schumacher (177) and Sebastian Vettel (196).

For the fourth year in a row, the race in Singapore was won from pole position. In four of the last five years, a driver who led every lap of the race at the track went on to win.

Among the teams, Red Bull remains 10 wins behind Mercedes in total victories despite winning the last two races. Still, Red Bull ended Mercedes' streak of leading at least one lap in every race this season. Racing Bulls reached 100 points, its best tally since 2021. Alpine, meanwhile, failed to score for the third race in a row, with Pierre Gasly finishing one place outside the points in both the sprint and the main race. Carlos Sainz, contesting his 250th Grand Prix weekend, finished the race 14th, and Williams went home without points.
