Mercedes-AMG Unveils Electric GT SUV With 1,153 hp and 710 kW Charging
Mercedes-AMG has unveiled a fully electric GT SUV, the second model built on its AMG.EA architecture. The flagship GT63 produces up to 1,153 hp from three axial-flux motors and accepts charging of up to 710 kW.

Mercedes-AMG has unveiled a fully electric GT SUV. The company says it is the first large SUV it has developed in-house. It is the second car to use the AMG.EA electric architecture. The first model on that platform was the electric GT 4-Door Coupe, which was introduced earlier this year, and the SUV inherits its motors and battery.
Three versions, three power levels
The range consists of three versions: the GT53, GT55 and GT63. The GT63 and GT55 use three axial-flux motors from YASA, a company Mercedes acquired in 2021. The GT63 produces up to 1,153 hp and 1,475 lb-ft of torque (about 2,000 Nm), and sprints from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.6 seconds. The GT55 makes 805 hp and covers the same sprint in 3.0 seconds. Both deliver 711 hp of continuous power. The front motor can disconnect when it is not needed.
The GT53 uses two conventional radial-flux synchronous motors. It produces up to 536 hp, 362 hp of continuous power, and takes 4.1 seconds to reach 100 km/h. Mercedes says the acceleration times are provisional estimates for now.
Battery, range and charging
All models use an 800-volt architecture. The GT63 and GT55 have a usable battery capacity of 128 kWh, while the GT53 has 106 kWh. The cells use a silicon-doped anode and are cooled with dielectric fluid. Mercedes gives WLTP range as 620-700 km for the GT63 and GT55, and 597-668 km for the GT53.
The large-battery versions accept up to 710 kW of DC charging and take 12 minutes to charge from 10 to 80 percent. The GT53 peaks at 600 kW and needs 11 minutes for the same charging window. The GT63 SUV weighs 2,695 kg and has a drag coefficient of 0.27.
Driving and equipment
The GT63 comes standard with Active Ride Control+ suspension, which is optional on the GT55. Rear-axle steering of up to 6 degrees is standard across the range. In AMGFORCE Sport+ mode, the GT63 and GT55 play a recorded V8 sound, while the GT53 plays a six-cylinder sound. Simulated gear shifts are also available. A quiet setting is offered as well.
Inside, a 14-inch central touchscreen sits alongside a 10.2-inch driver display, and an optional 14-inch passenger screen is available. The SUV seats five. Deliveries of the first cars are planned to begin in the US in summer 2027. Pricing has not been announced.
